GCW The Last Frontier: The Sequel Preview – What Happens With the World Championship?
Game Changer Wrestling heads to Anchorage, Alaska, for The Last Frontier: The Sequel. But the biggest question surrounding Saturday’s event now centers around the GCW World Championship. Joseph Sawyer was scheduled to defend the title against Atticus Cogar. But Sawyer has announced that he will no longer be appearing at the event. Following the knee injury he suffered at The Score. With the champion now out of the Alaska event. GCW has been left with a major question. What happens to the World Championship?
Atticus Cogar addressed the situation directly in a message to GCW’s fans. Acknowledging that many were looking forward to the championship fight with Sawyer. Cogar pointed out that Sawyer. Isn’t currently advertised for another appearance until November. Where he is scheduled to compete in a tag match. He said the decision regarding the World Championship is ultimately bigger than him. Instead of demanding a particular solution, Cogar asked the GCW fanbase to make their voices heard and let the promotion know what they believe should happen with the championship. He also made it clear that, regardless of what happens with the advertised match, he will still be in Alaska on Saturday. Cogar’s message turns what could have simply been a canceled title match into an interesting situation for GCW and its fans.
The championship situation is particularly notable because Cogar knows exactly what it means to be GCW World Champion. He held the title for nearly a year before losing it to Sawyer at Homecoming Weekend in August. And Saturday was supposed to give him an opportunity to take it back. Now, that rematch has disappeared from the equation, but Cogar’s appearance has not. What that means remains to be seen. GCW has not officially announced what will happen with the championship.
Breaking Down the Card
Away from the championship situation. One of the biggest matches still scheduled for Alaska is 1 Called Manders against Nick Gage. Both men have built reputations around physical, hard-hitting wrestling, making this a matchup that should fit perfectly with GCW’s style. Joey Janela is also set to take on Nova Kai in singles action. While Alec Price and Marcus Mathers will team together against Auron West and K-Jax. The tag team matchup gives Price and Mathers a chance to work together against a pair of opponents looking to make an impression. While Janela’s unpredictable style makes his bout with Nova Kai another matchup. That could take the show in several different directions.
The rest of the card features several more singles and multi-person matchups. Including Parrow against Murphy and Vipress taking on Steele. Jeffrey John will also be in action against Don Freeze after John’s match with Sawyer ended without a definitive conclusion at The Score. There is also a three-way match featuring Dossman, Jimmy Lloyd and Axl, giving three competitors an opportunity to stand out in a match where one pinfall will decide the winner. With GCW making its return to Alaska, the undercard has plenty of different styles and personalities represented throughout the night.
The Show Must Go On
Ultimately, The Last Frontier: The Sequel now has an element of unpredictability that wasn’t there when the original card was announced. The World Championship situation will obviously be something to watch, especially with Atticus Cogar confirming that he will still be in Anchorage despite Sawyer’s withdrawal. But even without knowing exactly what GCW has planned for the title, the rest of the lineup gives the Alaska crowd plenty to look forward to. With Gage, Manders, Janela, Price, Mathers and the rest of the roster scheduled to compete, Saturday could end up being a very different GCW show than anyone originally expected.
