On Sunday, August 30th, AAA returned to Edinburg, TX, for its big event, “Ola De Calor.” The event saw a number of title matches and all-around great Lucha Libre action. The AAA Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Fenix, headlined the show alongside former WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta and Dragon Lee as they faced Perros Del Mal. Perros Del Mal, consisting of Angel, Berto, and Daga, have been running roughshod over the AAA roster. They used the numbers game to their advantage. However, tonight, they lost the numbers game and faced a very tall task.

We also saw the big TripleMania contract signing between El Grande Americano and Dominik Mysterio for Mysterio’s AAA Mega Championship in the main event of the show. Also, El Carnicero made his monstrous debut; The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) put their AAA World Tag Team Championships on the line against Los Americanos (Rayo & Bravo), and La Parka, El Fiscal, Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., and Damian Priest battled to become the AAA Latin Champion in a four-way match. On a night filled with so much action, what were the top three moments of the night?

3. La Catalina Punches Her Ticket to AAA TripleMania 34

In the second match of the night, some of AAA’s best women’s wrestlers vied for a shot at the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship. Flemmers has held the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship for more than 1,115 days. She first won the title back in 2023, defeating the former champion, Taya Valkyrie. Since then, she has defeated the likes of Faby Apache, Jessica Troy, Dalys, Keyra, Lady Shani, Natalya, Sussy Love, Bayley, and most recently, La Catalina & Lady Shani in a three-way match back in July. While she has had a strong reign, the women’s division of AAA keeps getting stronger, which says something.

The match at Sunday’s show was a gauntlet match. Lady Shani got past Adelicious to kick off the match. The next competitor in was NXT’s Thea Hail. Thea Hail had a short but very competitive match with Lady Shani that ended with her ultimately moving on in the match. The next competitor, La Catalina, has embarked on a tremendous run unlike anything I think we’ve seen in quite some time. She has become a fan favorite and wins the fans over every time she steps into the ring. La Catalina got past Thea Hail and La Hiedra to punch her ticket to AAA TripleMania in a mere couple of weeks.

There’s no denying what Flemmers has done for the Reina de Reinas Championship. She may be the best Reina de Reinas Champion in history. She is the longest-reigning AAA Reina de Reinas Champion of all time. Truthfully, she may be the greatest champion in the world right now. However, she has a sizable opponent at AAA TripleMania. While La Catalina stands as the clear-cut underdog, the underdog story still carries plenty of weight. One thing we know for sure is that with Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano, and now Flemmers vs. La Catalina, this year’s TripleMania is shaping up to be can’t-miss.

2. La Parka Captures AAA Latin American Championship

When El Hijo del Vikingo suffered a knee injury, General Manager Rey Mysterio vacated the Latin American Championship and announced a tournament that was originally scheduled to conclude at Triplemania 34. After a series of qualifiers, the tournament took several twists and turns. An angle with Omos resulted in his suspension and Galeno’s removal from the tournament, while Damian Priest received a bye into the Fatal 4-Way Final. Officials later moved the final to today’s Ola de Calor event in Edinburg, Texas. That left us with the following matchup: El Fiscal vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. La Parka vs. Damian Priest. Spoiler alert: this match was amazing.

It was a fun sprint of a 4-Way, with all the action you can expect from the match type. The four men got to showcase all of their talents in almost a ten-minute war. Priest was clearly positioned as a major star coming to AAA here, and he was targeted early and often. In the end, however, after Priest hit South of Heaven on Fiscal, La Parka rushed in to break up the fall attempt and finished it off with the Thriller Suplex.

So, there you have it. La Parka is your new AAA Latin American Champion. The legendary character known as La Parka adds his name to the ranks of Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Par-K, Blue Demon Jr., Chessman, Psycho Clown, Pentagon Jr., Johnny Mundo, Drago, Daga, Taurus, Fenix, Octagon Jr., and El Mesias. It remains to be seen where they take the title from here with El Hijo del Vikingo out, but one thing we know for sure is that it’s in good hands. La Parka is the character to get the job done. With this era’s iteration, many fans will enjoy rooting for La Parka to retain his title and get the job done each time he goes out there.

1. Hell Breaks Loose In AAA Mega Championship Contract Signing

The main event of the two-night Lucha Libre AAA TripleManía 34 event is El Grande Americano challenging Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship. Their match is taking place on night two in Mexico City. This match is undoubtedly going to steal the show. El Grande Americano is arguably the hottest he’s ever been to the AAA crowd, and he’s finally going to potentially get a crowning achievement in about two weeks. He has a very tall task at that show, as he’ll need to get past Dominik Mysterio, who’s on the run of a lifetime. However, Dominik isn’t the only Mysterio who will be wrestling at the event.

Dorian Roldán accompanied Dominik to the ring, and he brought up that he wants El Ojo member Omos’ suspension lifted. Omos was suspended for putting his hands on Rey Mysterio. Dominik stated that he’s only signing the contract if the suspension is lifted. Rey responded by saying he’ll strip Dominik of the title. However, El Grande Americano interjected and said he doesn’t want to win the title like that. Showing up at ringside was Omos, and Rey told him he could not be there. Omos then pulled out a ticket and patted Rey on the head. That infuriated Rey, so he started attacking Omos with a microphone, and El Grande pulled him off.

Dominik then went after El Grande. Finally, the two sides were separated. Rey told Omos that if he wanted back in AAA, he’d have to go through him. He then set the match for night one of TripleManía 34 in Paradise, Nevada. Rey said that if Omos wins, he’s back in AAA, but if he loses, he’s gone from the brand forever. So, it appears that something is finally going to give with Omos. Does Omos remain in AAA, or do we see him go back to the main roster? Only time will tell. Nonetheless, I’m very intrigued by Rey Mysterio vs. Omos. A modern-day Mysterio vs. The Great Khali. This one will be fun.
