On Sunday, July 26th, All Elite Wrestling made their pay-per-view debut at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada when they held their big event, “Redemption.” This was a historic show, on a historic night, marking AEW’s first big event in the great up north. The show was headlined by Kenny Omega putting his AEW World Championship on the line against the current AEW TNT Champion, Kevin Knight. However, that was just the tip of the iceberg as ten more matches took place on this history-making night.

We also saw Thekla put her AEW Women’s World Championship on the line against Willow Nightingale, Mark Davis put the AEW National Championship on the line against Andrade El Idolo, “The Pain Maker,” Chris Jericho meet Tommaso Ciampa in a No Holds Barred match, Cage and Cope put their AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against the Death Riders’ Claudio Castagnoli and Pac, Hikaru Shida put her AEW TBS Championship on the line against Maya World, and so much more. So, what were the top three moments of the night?

3. Andrade Captures the AEW National Championship

The second title of the night to change hands was the AEW National Championship. Andrade defeated Mark Davis to win the title and take it away from the Don Callis Family. This was a fun match, nothing really special. The moment that saw Andrade finally saw himself capture some gold in AEW was truly remarkable. Andrade and Davis went just over 15 minutes in this title bout. Neither man was going to give an inch, but then again, would anyone have expected this match to go any other way? Is there anyone in AEW who has had a better couple of months than Andrade, truthfully?

On the July 15th episode of AEW Dynamite, Andrade defeated Jake Doyle to earn a shot at Mark Davis at Redemption. Since making his return to the company, we have seen Andrade finally get the push that he deserves. He’s been put in spots that to show how good he is in-ring, and on top of that, shows how charismatic he truly is. We also have to give Davis his flowers. Davis was a perfect transitional champion for Andrade to dethrone and start his reign off strong with. Andrade received a star’s entrance, and Davis did his part to make Andrade look like an absolute star.

Now, it should be interesting to see where Andrade goes from here. One has to think that he may be defending that title at AEW All In: London against MJF. That seems like the direction we’re headed. However, that’s largely conditional on where MJF’s schedule lies, and if he’s even available for AEW All In: London. However, if he’s not, you could easily pair Andrade with someone like Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight, or even someone like Jay White for fun. Nonetheless, Andrade officially has his first taste of gold in AEW, and it’s very well-deserved.

2.Willow Nightingale Captures the AEW Women’s World Championship

The AEW women’s division looks much more different coming out of AEW Redemption than it did heading into the show. Entering the show, Thekla was the AEW Women’s World Champion, and Hikaru Shida was the AEW TBS Champion. Now, neither hold their respective title coming out of the show. However, we will get to the ladder of that statement in just a few. Right now, we need to shine a light on the number two moment of the night, Willow Nightingale. Nightingale defeated Thekla to end her reign of terror and become the brand new AEW Women’s World Champion.

This was an amazing crowning achievement for Willow. It was truly amazing getting to see her win the big one finally. She has been working her butt off for this moment. So, to see it pay off was super special. She’s making Long Island very proud. After many unsuccessful attempts in the past, Willow got the job done. In one of her best matches to date, Willow Nightingale defeated Thekla to capture the top prize in the AEW women’s division. Another interesting piece of history, Willow winning the AEW Women’s World Championship cements her in the AEW history books as she’s now the first women Grand Slam Champion in the history of the promotion.

With Nightingale now having the prize around her waist, we gear up for another major match coming our way in a month. With Mercedes Mone winning the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, she has earned the right to challenge for that title on August 30th at AEW All In: London. This is sure to be another banger of a match between the two with Mone being the early favorite entering this show. Could we finally see Mone’s crowning moment with AEW, or will Willow kick off her reign in a strong way by defeating one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world? Stay tuned to find out.

1. Maya World Captures The AEW TBS Championship

While quite a few championships changed hands at Redemption, no moment topped Maya World’s capturing of the TBS Championship. To make matters better for Maya, this show fell on her birthday. So, this was a giant celebration for World from the start of the day to the very end. Now, taking nothing away from Willow Nightingale’s win of the top prize for the women’s division, Maya World’s moment was that much more special. World has bursted onto the scene in AEW in unlikely fashion, and very quickly took over. She has quickly won the hearts of all of the AEW fans, and that put her in an excellent spot to succeed.

World’s rise in AEW has been astronomically fast, no way about it. She followed up her incredible show-stealing match with Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door a mere couple of months back with another fantastic showing against Hikaru Shida. Only this time, the result would be a tad bit different. She won. Which meant she got to hoist the AEW TBS Championship over her head. This title change was an amazing moment for World and one that really cemented her as one of the top women in all of All Elite Wrestling. To say she is a future AEW Women’s World Championship is the understatement of the century. She’s that damn good.

What’s even crazier to remember and think about was that World has only been wrestling for a couple of years. She’s not some 10-year veteran in the business. However, she’s wise beyond her years. She is already honing her craft and looking like a future star. Too give credit where it’s due, it was extremely refreshing seeing AEW crown World as the AEW TBS Champion. She’s not some ex-TV talent, she’s a homegrown, young gun. This is a huge step towards building for the future for AEW, and it’s awesome to see them do that. On a personal note, I’ve been a fan of Maya World since she started and seeing her get these moments is just beyond special. So well-deserved.
