On Sunday, August 24th, All Elite Wrestling returned to London, England, for one of its biggest shows of the year, “Forbidden Door.” This event was held in the O2 Arena. This was AEW’s first time at the O2 Arena, as they had previously run at Wembley Stadium in the past. The main event of the show saw the Young Bucks team up with the Death Riders and Gabe Kidd to face Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and the Golden Lovers. This wasn’t just a normal match, not even close. We saw these two teams meet in a brutal, bloody, and violent Light’s Out Steel Cage match.

We also saw ‘Hangman’ Adam Page defend his AEW World Championship against MJF in a half-hour-long slug fest. Also at one of AEW’s biggest shows of the year, we saw Toni Storm defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Athena. Kazuchika Okada put his AEW Unified Championship on the line against Swerve Strickland. The Hurt Syndicate put their AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line in a three-way match, and so much more. So, what were the top three moments of this very jam-packed wrestling event?

3. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Reunite

In the opening match of the main card, we saw Adam Copeland & Christian Cage team up to face off with Killswitch & Kip Sabian. While Adam Copeland & Christian Cage don’t quite have the same ring as “Edge and Christian,” this was still one of the most emotional and fan-favorite moments of the night. This was the first time we saw Copeland and Cage team up and fight side-by-side in 14 years. This was indeed the moment that professional wrestling fans had been waiting years for. We finally got it earlier today.

Their entrance fueled a massive sing-along in the O2 Arena to “Metalingus,” Copeland’s theme song. While it wasn’t exactly the Edge and Christian that we remembered, we saw these two men team up and do what they do arguably better than anyone. Cage remained in somewhat of a heel persona through it. The match ended when Cage lifted Killswitch for a pop-up spear by Copeland. The segment closed with a handshake between Copeland and Cage. However, Cage declined a hug, which left many fans questioning why.

We don’t know where these two men go from here. However, it was a treat getting to see Copeland and Cage team up once again. Despite “Edge and Christian” no longer being the name, these are still the same men who entertained us for years. This was a fantastic opening match for the main card of Forbidden Door. The fans in attendance only confirmed that. Now the only question that remains is, is this the last we’ve seen of Copeland and Cage in a ring together, or could we see the two team up once again?

2. ‘Hangman’ Adam Page Successfully Defends The AEW World Championship Against MJF

In one of the show’s biggest matches, we saw ‘Hangman’ Adam Page put the AEW World Championship on the line against MJF. Back in March, Page defeated MJF at “Revolution” before he won the AEW World Championship back. Fast forward to “All In” in July, on the same date we saw Page defeat Jon Moxley and win back the AEW World Championship, we saw MJF win the Casino Gauntlet, earning a title shot whenever he wanted. On a recent episode of Dynamite, Page got MJF to use it at Forbidden Door, and MJF obliged, and the match was made official.

Things took a turn in this rivalry when MJF, along with Ricochet and Gates of Agony, kidnapped Mark Briscoe and threatened to burn him. MJF wanted two things from Page. One, that the title can change hands on countout and disqualification, and two, his Casino Gauntlet contract wouldn’t be used. Page accepted his terms, and the match was official. This was a fantastic match, which saw both men engage in a 30+ minute war. Briscoe even made a return to thwart MJF’s underhanded tactics with a downed referee. In the end, Page retained after a fantastic match.

Page turned MJF’s contract case against him, and hit a Deadeye followed by a Buckshot Lariat for the three-count. This was yet another case of how resilient a wrestler Page is. While it’s still just getting started, Page is already blowing his last reign out of the water. This is the Page we should have seen in his first reign, and he’s crushing it right now. Now, all that’s left to be seen is who is next for Page, and where does MJF go from here?

1. Tanahashi Scores The Win In Main Event, Ospreay Taken Out In Brutal Post-Match Attack

The main event of the night saw Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and The Golden Lovers square off with the Young Bucks, Death Riders, and Gabe Kidd. In late May, it was announced that Tanahashi would wrestle at this event. Forbidden Door would also be his final match in the United Kingdom. However, it was yet to be seen in what capacity. What started as Ospreay and Allin vs. the Death Riders ended up with the massive five-on-five match we saw in the main event. Fast forward to today, these two teams went to an absolute war together.

This was a very spot-heavy match. In what was the goriest moment of the night, the Death Riders taped Allin to a chair and stabbed a fork through his ear. Yeah, it was a rough watch. In the end, Matt Jackson was left alone in the ring and suffered a combination move of the one-winged angel and the Hidden Blade by Omega and Ospreay. This was followed up by Tanahashi landing a High Fly Flow on Jackson to pin him and win the match for his team.

Following the match, Ospreay was annihilated by Moxley, who landed several Paradigm Shifts on Ospreay. Ospreay was left alone in the cage by the babyfaces. This led the Death Riders to seemingly write him off for the foreseeable future. While it remains to be seen where these 10 men go from here, this was an absolute war. Ospreay has been written off TV for quite some time. It should be interesting to see when he returns and what caused him to miss some time. Overall, this was a great match to cap off a great event.
