Last night, at the conclusion of WWE WrestleMania 42 night one’s main event, Cody Rhodes sustained a legitimate eye injury! News and a viral video surfaced shortly after the incident, which occurred once the main event match between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton was over, and saw Rhodes successfully defend his title.

In what was a planned spot, Randy Orton attacked Rhodes after his victory. He went for his patented “Punt Kick,” which appeared to really hit Rhodes. The Champ’s eye immediately shut, and he suffered deep lacerations as well.

The injury concerned everyone, including Randy Orton, who broke character once the cameras were off to check on Cody. Medics attended to Rhodes, and he immediately went into concussion protocol.

WWE’s Jackie Redmond gave an update on The American Nightmare’s injury during the WrestleMania 42 Night 2 Kickoff Show:

“I can confirm that Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared,” Jackie Redmond began. “And after speaking to medical staff, I can tell you, the damage from that main event was severe. Afterwards, Cody Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head.

“As for the punt that you just showed from Randy Orton, the impact to Cody’s orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut. So again, Cody Rhodes is not medically cleared, and his timetable for return as of today is up in the air. If I hear anything further, I’ll be the first to let you know.”

As of this writing, no timeframe has been given for how long Rhodes will be out of action. We at Turnbuckle Times wish Cody Rhodes a speedy recovery! We will keep you posted with updates as they become available.
