On Saturday, August 2nd, WWE returned to MetLife Stadium for one of its biggest shows of the year, “Summerslam.” This event also marked the first-ever two-night “Summerslam” event. The main event of Night 1 of WWE’s massive event saw Gunther put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against CM Punk. This marked the first time these two men met for the top prize of the entire RAW men’s division. However, would Gunther or Punk walk out as World Heavyweight Champion? Or… would neither man win the title?

We also saw Roman Reigns team up with Jey Uso to challenge the team of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. We saw some championship action, too, as Alexa Bliss and Charlotte challenged The Judgement Day for their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Also, Jelly Roll made his in-ring debut, and Karrion Kross met Sami Zayn in a fun match with an interesting stipulation added. So, what were the top three moments of the historic night?

3. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Win The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

In the second match of the night, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte teamed up to challenge The Judgement Day for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Bliss and Charlotte have formed somewhat of a “not friends” partnership. This has become one of the hottest stories in the entire women’s division. Following her failure in winning the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41, Charlotte was approached by Bliss about forming a tag team. Flair declined Bliss several times, but ultimately Bliss was able to wear her down and get the yes she had hoped for.

Bliss and Flair were given a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity at Summerslam by WWE RAW general manager, Adam Pearce. The match itself was electric. The fans in the arena loved Bliss and Charlotte’s newfound friendship. Bliss and Charlotte showed they have what it takes to be an excellent tag team and worked together very well. However, there was a bit of a hiccup when Bliss accidentally knocked Flair out as she was attempting to hit Raquel Rodriguez of Judgement Day.

Ultimately, Flair hit a big boot on Rodriguez, and Bliss pinned Roxanne Perez following a Sister Abigail. The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships have found a new home brand as they now head over to the blue brand, “Friday Night SmackDown.” Overall, this was an enjoyable match, with a nice surprise: new Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned after Judgement Day’s lengthy run.

2. Roman Reigns & Jey Uso Get Some Payback On Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed

In the opening match of the night, we saw Roman Reigns and Jey Uso team up to try and get a measure of revenge against Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. As always, Breakker and Reed were accompanied by their “Oracle,” Paul Heyman. This is a rivalry that got very personal for Reigns following WrestleMania 41 when Heyman low-blowed him to side with Seth Rollins. However, Rollins would get injured in a match with LA Knight at a recent edition of “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” This led Reigns to team up with Uso to get a measure of revenge against the next best thing, Rollins’ lackies.

The match itself was a blast. Fans were fired up for the first-ever two-night “Summerslam” event. Therefore, kicking it off with a rendition of “YEET” got the fans more hyped than they already were. Even after the match started, Uso and Reigns called for Uso’s song to run again, and fans began their “YEET” party again. However, it would be shortly thereafter interrupted by Breakker and Reed. Bodies went flying as Reigns and Uso took to the sky for some big dives to the outside.

Ultimately, Reigns shoved Uso out of the way and ate a spear from Breakker. This allowed Uso to spear Reed and hit him with a Uso Splash, winning the match for his team. Something tells me the rivalry between Reigns and Heyman is far from over. However, one thing we know for sure is that Reigns and Uso were victorious on this night. Thus, getting back a measure of revenge in the process. At the end of the show, Breakker was seen with a bandage around his knee and with a bad limp. We at Turnbuckle Times wish him the best in remaining healthy.

1. Seth Rollins Cashes In Money In The Bank on CM Punk

In the main event, we saw Gunther put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against CM Punk. On the July 14th episode of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk won a gauntlet match to earn a shot at Gunther. For Punk, this was personal. He said multiple times that he didn’t just want to be the World Heavyweight Champion, but he “needed it.” However, he had a tall task standing in front of him in one of the best professional wrestlers around today, Gunther.

Gunther and Punk went to a 30-minute war. This was an excellent main event to cap off a very fun show. Ultimately, in the end, CM Punk hit two GTSs on Gunther to finally win the World Heavyweight Championship. However, unfortunately for Punk, his night wasn’t done there. After the match, as Punk celebrated, Seth Rollins’ music hit, and he made his way out on crutches and in a brace. However, in an act that stunned the entire crowd, Rollins dropped his crutches and removed his brace. He then ran down to the ring and attacked Punk before cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase.

While Rollins’ injury may have been very up in the air entering tonight, now we have a clear and definite answer. Rollins is officially healthy and back and better than ever. Unfortunately for the RAW brand, Rollins now holds the World Heavyweight Championship and has some very good protection around him. With Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed by his side, will anyone be able to pry the World Heavyweight Championship out of Rollins’ hands?
