On Saturday, July 12th, WWE returned to Atlanta, GA, for its big event, “NXT’s Great American Bash.” The event was headlined by Blake Monroe teaming up with Jordynne Grace to face off with Fatal Influence. This was the first time we ever saw Monroe and Grace team up, and they had a formidable duo standing in front of them. Jacy Jayne, the NXT Women’s Champion, and Fallon Henley consisted of Fatal Influence on this night.

We also saw Oba Femi put the NXT Championship on the line against Yoshiki Inamura. Also, Ethan Page defended the NXT North American Championship against Ricky Saints, and Sol Ruca put the NXT Women’s North American Championship on the line against Izzi Dame. We also saw Jasper Troy in his premium live event debut. So, what were the top three moments of the night?

3. Oba Femi Retains Against Yoshiki Inamura

In one of the night’s big matches, we saw Oba Femi put the NXT Championship on the line against Yoshiki Inamura. This was Inamura’s first-ever shot at singles gold in NXT. On the June 24th episode of WWE NXT, Femi cut a promo looking for some competition. Inamura answered and made his intentions clear, he wants the NXT Championship. Inamura earned the right to face Oba after picking up a win over Jasper Troy. This was a match between two powerhouses that didn’t disappoint.

Femi and Inamura truly left it all in the ring to become the top dog in NXT. Josh Briggs accompanied Inamura in this match, which ultimately played a factor. Things began to unravel when Inamura attempted a frog splash on Femi who quickly recovered and sent him into the referee. This allowed Briggs to strike Femi with the NXT Championship belt. Briggs tried to get Inamura to use underhanded tactics in this match, but Inamura stood true to himself, and that could have ended up costing him.

Ultimately, after a hard-fought match, Femi hit a “Fall From Grace” on Inamura to retain his NXT Championship. This was a valiant effort from Inamura. However, Femi proved to remain unstoppable. Is there anyone who can dethrone Femi? If so, who might it be? Femi surely looks to be in a land of his own on NXT, and continues to be one of the toughest NXT Champions that the brand has ever seen.

2. Ethan Page Retains The NXT North American Championship Against Ricky Saints

In one of the most personal matches of the night, we saw Ethan Page defend the NXT North American Championship against Ricky Saints. Back in April at Stand & Deliver, Saints first defended the NXT North American Championship against Page. Over the next few weeks, the rivalry would boil over and become more personal than ever before. In their next meeting, Page won the title from Saints after injuring Saints’ throat in the process. Saints ran the “Vanity Project Gauntlet” and won it, earning the shot against Page at Great American Bash.

The two men went on to have one of the best matches of the night. In a rivalry that has become so personal, Page and Saints truly gave it their all to become the NXT North American Champion. Throughout the match, Page and Saints fought throughout the arena, including in the WWE Shop area, and used everything they could find on each other. We even saw Jasper Troy get involved, hitting a Black Hole Slam on Saints.

Ultimately, Page sent Saints through two tables with an “Ego’s Edge” and pinned him to retain the NXT North American Championship. While it remains to be seen where we go from here, this felt like the big payoff match between the two men. It was interesting to see Troy get involved and find his next target, Saints. This was a fantastic, must-watch match for anyone who loves professional wrestling. One thing we know for sure is Page remains atop the NXT men’s midcard division.

1. Blake Monroe Pins the NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, Masha Slamovich Joins The Chaos

In the main event of the night, we saw Blake Monroe team up with Jordynne Grace to take on Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley. Jayne represents NXT as the Women’s Champion. She sits atop the mountain in the NXT women’s division with very little worry. With Henley and Jazmyn Nyx not far behind her, Jayne is well-protected. Jayne and her Fatal Influence stablemates quickly took a disdain for Monroe. They sent her through a table during her NXT Contract Signing in June.

All four women put on an excellent main event. Nyx accompanied Fatal Influence to the ring in this match. However, she would be neutralized by the TNA Knockouts Champion, Masha Slamovich, who debuted on NXT. Grace laid out Henley on the outside of the ring, leaving Jayne all alone for Monroe to get some payback. Ultimately, Monroe hit a Sweeping DDT on Jayne and pinned her to win the match for her and Grace.

While Grace gets Jayne all to herself tomorrow, you have to think that Monroe is now next in line for the NXT Women’s Championship. Tomorrow night at Evolution, Jacy Jayne will officially defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Jordynne Grace in a singles match. Despite coming up short in the tag team contest, expect Jayne to have a much better showing tomorrow. However, one thing we know for sure is that Monroe pinning the NXT Women’s Champion is massive and should not be understated. Overall, the Great American Bash was a very fun show.
