John Cena’s Final Match Will Be Debated For Years
We all knew John Cena’s final match was going to be emotional. We were saying goodbye to a career of one of the greatest ever to do it! What fans didn’t know was how that career and his last match would end.
Since WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, wrestling fans from all over have been taking to podcasts, the internet, and social media to voice their views. While some understand the booking, many are furious!
How could John Cena lose his last match? And even more so, how can he lose it by submitting? The slogan “Never Give Up” was more than just a slogan, it was a motto that Cena lived by and all his fans believed in! So why choose to end his career like this?
Let’s look at the time-honored tradition in wrestling. Most wrestlers and legends take a loss in their last-ever match. Now, in modern wrestling, that hasn’t always been the case, but John Cena has an old-school mentality and respects wrestling way too much not to lose his last match!
Even if that’s so, why be submitted in your final match? In most cases, wrestlers get to decide how they want to lose their final match. Now this doesn’t have to be the case here, but this doesn’t sound out of the realm of possibility either.
While fans are distraught thinking Cena gave up, and went against what he’s been preaching for two decades, there is a difference between submitting and giving up or quitting. Most people look at them as being one in the same. But by definition alone, they are not.
Submitting to the fact that his time is up and someone else’s is now is a stark reminder of Cena’s “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” to this business! Cena didn’t quit by submitting to Gunther; he accepted the fact that he gave everything he had for wrestling, and now it’s time for a new chapter. The smile on his face right before tapping out says it all!
Plus, don’t forget that John Cena has given us many jaw-dropping, shocking moments throughout his career. What better way to end your career than to provide us with possibly the biggest one of them all!
Maybe we are more upset that this historic career ended, than the fact Cena lost? The truth is, no one really knows who decided and why John Cena’s final match ended the way it did. And maybe that’s the point. Many will continue to blame Triple H, and unless Cena or the WWE addresses it, it is left for us to debate. Something that we as wrestling fans love to do regularly.
Regardless of your feelings on the decision and the outcome, nothing will change what John Cena has meant for wrestling and its fans! Thank You Cena!
