Exclusive: Brent Oakley Talks Wrestling Revolver, BDE, The Algorithm, Alpha Sig, and More
In TurnbuckleTimes’ latest exclusive interview, Brent Oakley (@TheBrentOakley) sits down with Scott Mitchell (@scott44mitchell) to talk about his time in Wrestling Revolver so far, including his upcoming match with BDE for the Remix Championship, showing up at Battle For The Brave Wrestling, forming The Algorithm with Joe Alonzo & Crash, turning on Alpha Sig, Jon Moxley, Joe Gacy, and so much more. Watch the interview in its entirety down below.
Let’s jump right into it. On Friday night, at Wrestling Revolver, you will be battling your former friend BDE. What’s your mindset heading into this one?
“I’m going to be honest with you, I’m confident. I’m very confident. Going against someone like BDE, he’s on TNA, he’s got the contract, he’s fulfilling his dreams. He’s doing it. I’ve been doing this since 2019. This homie just started. This dude’s been doing it for a cup of coffee. I’m not shaking in my boots at all. BDE, I’m going to outwrestle you, I’m going to outperform you, and I’m going to become the new Revolver Remix Champion. I’m that confident. I’m going to be the new Revolver Remix Champion. If there were betting odds for this match and I were the underdog, best believe that I’m hammering it.
Even if the odds were -2000 swinging in my favor, which they probably are, actually, they are certified. Somebody is a bookie out there for professional wrestling; if I’m not the favorite by at least 1,000, you’re smoking on some serious drugs. That’s where I’m at. I’m confident.”
Does this match being for the Remix Championship add anything to you, or do you just want to go in there and kick BDE’s butt?
“You said it perfectly. Scott, I’m going to be honest, I’m starting to like you a lot, man. Yeah, I’m just going to whoop his ass. The title comes with it. But, I’m going to be honest with you too, the title is pretty sweet too, knowing the fact that the title brings more money. When I win more money, that title brings more money in my paychecks. It gives me more notoriety. That puts me on the poster. You have to put me on the poster, Sami. You have to put us over. Give us the recognition. Hell, I’m putting your product over son.
With winning the championship, yeah, it comes with more money, and yeah, it comes with more fun, but it gives us what we deserve. The Algorithm deserves the spotlight, and the Remix Championship will do. Me, whooping BDE’s ass is just the icing on the cake.”
We saw your rivalry spill over to Battle For The Brave Wrestling in a 12-man gauntlet match for the Battle For The Brave Cup. What was it like to work with BDE in this setting?
“First of all, let me set the mood. That place was hot as shit. It was at least 99 degrees in that building. I was already sweating. The ropes were loose. The floor was slick. Everyone’s f**king liquids were all over that ring. So, I go in there, I’m doing my thing, house of fire, I look really good. I go see my boy, Zachary Wentz. I say, ‘Hey, you little bastard, I’m going to throw you over the top rope.’ So, as my back turned, I’m doing all the fun shit. Here comes this loser BDE, running dowthat’sn the ramp. I tried to hit him with the best lariat I could throw; however, I ended up whiffing. However, that’s not going to happen tomorrow night in Dayton, Ohio. I promise you right now.
I’m not going to do a whole lot of missing. Alright. It was a fluke. He caught me off guard. He gets me when I’m down. Then, the sucker tried to eliminate me like I didn’t watch Shawn Michaels skin the cat 45,000 times in my life. Hell no. He thinks he can just get an easy one over on Brent Oakley and throw me over the top rope? Hell no. That was not flying. I’ll just say the better man would have been victorious if I weren’t distracted by 16 other dudes trying to get rid of me. Because obviously I’m the biggest threat in that match. I had everyone going after me.
Especially, did you see the guy who threw me out by the way? That guy needs to be drug tested. That guy is at least 400 pounds lean. So, I’m still waiting to hear back. However, that was some bullshit. I’m still waiting on the test results.”
Friday’s Revolver show is absolutely stacked with the likes of Lio Rush, Mance Warner, Steve Maclin, and much more heading to Revolver. Why should fans check this one out for free on the Revolver YouTube channel?
“You just said it, it’s free. You know, a bunch of these broke idiots think seven dollars is a stretch. So, we made it free for these bums, and we said hey, you can go watch the greatest professional wrestling going on, on the independent scene, and we’re going to add the likes of Lio Rush, this psychopath, by the way, I have to share a locker room with that guy tomorrow. I don’t know what the hell that dude is going to do or what the hell is inside that guy, pause.
That’s going to be a whole lot of fun. Steve Maclin, however, I’ll be honest, not a big fan of that guy. Not a big fan. I don’t give a shit if you’re a free agent or not. Nobody cares. Mance? Congrats, you’re the World Champion. There’s going to be a new champion walking around the hallways of Revolver starting tomorrow night. There’s going to be a new era in the Remix division. I know you had your Alex Shelley’s, Jake Crist’s, AJ Francis’s, for the love of God, Chris Danger of all people had that title. Chris Danger of all people held that championship.
Are you kidding me? Are you telling me I’m not going to hold that championship? There’s 12-year old kids, BDE fans by the way, telling me I’m not going to hold that championship. I’m going to make that championship prestigious. I’m going to do it better than anyone else who has held that title in history. Mark my words. Put it in a quote. Trademark. Whatever these kids say nowadays.”
We saw you recently turn on your former team, Alpha Sig, to side with Joe Alonzo and Crash to form The Algorithm. Where did this come from, and what went into it for you?
“To be honest, man, it just all fell into place personally. Alpha Sig was pissing me off. Alpha Sig was content with being losers. They just wanted to party and have fun. You get it? These kids are young. KC, Dick, they’re just young kids who are still trying to figure it out in this business. I’m older than them, and being a fifth-year senior, I had to turn it around. I wasn’t doing anything in my career, man. I get we were having fun, right, we’re having a lot of fun. But what does it cost?
The beer’s not tasting as good, the sex isn’t hitting as hard, because we’re not winning. I was telling them, I’m frustrated as shit, I want to win shit. But they weren’t listening. So, you know what, I took matters into my own hands, and shoutout to Seth Rollins, man, I put a chair in the back. To answer your other question, Joe and Crash just fell into place. They were also pissed off, and they were annoyed. They were frustrated because they weren’t getting recognition, they weren’t getting the love.
However, do you know what I said? I can get that to those guys. I said I can be a brother to you guys. However, going from group-to-group was not initially my design. I didn’t think I was going to go from being in Alpha Sig to being a part of The Algorithm. Once Joe and Crash laid out their desires, their wants, their needs, it matched exactly what I was looking for. It just all made sense. Here we are. The Algorithm. Here to stay. Forever.”
What made you decide to finally pull the trigger on Alpha Sig and turn on them and do your own thing?
“Well, Scott, the reason I did, to go back on what I said earlier, I was tired of losing. They were content being losers. We were two-time World Revolver Tag Team Champions. We had the world on our shoulders. Hell, we were tag team of the year, we were rookies of the year. We were the hottest thing in professional wrestling, especially in the tag division. We were the hottest team coming up. And they get so content with just losing, like, damn, we just missed it, or we almost had it. Enough is enough. My professional wrestling career, the clock is going a lot faster than it is. I’m older than those guys. If they want to be content partying, go and do it.
Lose as many matches as you want, drink as many beers as you want, smoke as many blunts as you want after a loss. However, I want to smoke that shit after I win. That’s what I’m doing with The Algorithm. That’s what I’m going to do tomorrow after BDE. I’m going to smoke a fat blunt. Hell, I’m going to smoke a cigar. I’m going to light it up Joe Burrow style; I’m going to cross my legs, puff that shit. I’m going to look sexy as hell with that championship strapped over my shoulder. Alpha Sig is nothing without Brent Oakley. You can put that on a T-shirt. Alpha Sig is nothing without Brent Oakley.”
You started at Revolver as a part of Alpha Sig with KC Jacobs and Dick Meyers. What was it like to run roughshod over that tag division for quite some time with them by your side?
“I loved those boys, man. I really did. That’s where I’m at. I’ll be honest. I did, I really did. I had a lot of love for those boys; I treated them like they were my own. They were both my little brothers. I treated them like I would give them the world, as long as they did it for me. Guess what? They didn’t hold up their end of the bargain. Those assholes threw every opportunity I ever gave them out the f**king window when they can’t get the job done. They didn’t take it as seriously as I am. I was always in the gym, getting bigger and getting stronger. What were they doing? Partying. Partying their ass off.
They’re getting a little too comfortable. I finally made Pledge an actual brother. I finally stripped away the pledge from him. What did he do? He kicked me in the nuts in Clive, IA. He’s a brother. He’s officially a part of the squad, and he kicks me in the nuts, and he turns on his boys for some vagina. Can you believe it? Everyone out there has a boy like that. Everyone out there always has that friend that you’re going to look forward to playing games with, say you’ll boot up Call of Duty, right? You’re looking forward to playing with him, and then you get that text back. “Sorry, bro, I can’t.” You already know why. They’re going to hang out with their girl. That is exactly what they did to me. They gave me that text.
They said everything they had to say to me right then and there when they gave me that text message; they said, ‘Oh, I’m going to choose a girl over you.’ Going forward, I already knew our time was up. I already knew that they didn’t have the right mindset that they needed to have that killer instinct to win it all, to do the big things in this industry, man, to become tag team champions, and eventually World Champion. The sky was the limit for us, but as soon as Dick turned his back on us, I knew it right then, and there, this wasn’t going to last long.”
Y’all are former two-time Revolver Tag Team Champions. What did this mean to you to be put that trust and faith in to have some great tag matches for the top prize in Revolver’s tag division?
“We had to earn it. I have to be so real with you, man. We had to earn that shit. Day 1, nobody knew who the hell we were, so we made a statement. We came out through the curtain, took that microphone in Clive, IA, and talked our way to the top. You know who talked the way to the top? Me, of course. I had the balls to go out there, to Clive, and tell them they all suck, and guess who came out there? Man Scout, and the rest of the SGC, at the time when they were running around being a boy band. Manders took my head off with a clothesline and put us through a door. Hell, I believe Mance’s dumb ass was out there, too.
Current, now, World Champion, Mance Warner has given us some licks, which by the way, I kept those receipts, pal. They came out there and whooped our ass. Which, every single time we were given an opportunity, it was nothing but getting our ass beat. Hell, that loser Tommy Dreamer got one off on us. We’ve been getting our ass beat. We had to earn our way to the top. What’s hilarious was they would send us out there with no motive, no direction, and just say, ‘Hey, go out there, and we’ll let you know what happens.’ So, Sami would calculate these ass beatings without ever telling us, this way we had to earn our keep.
Then, we’d go out there for a match, and we’d blow the roof off the place in Dayton. We went up against the current champions at the time, SGC, at ‘Heat Em Up’, I believe, we go out there, and we put on an instant classic, a five-star banger. We put on an absolute banger with SGC. People still go, ahhhh, they got lucky. No, motherf**ker, it ain’t luck if you do it day in and day out, that’s just skill. So, when you say given these opportunities, we had to earn those opportunities. Hell, I had to earn those opportunities. I was given the microphone. If I f**ked up, we’re not getting that spotlight or opportunity ever again. Any time they put us on the plate, we hit one out of the park. We wouldn’t settle for a single, double, or triple. We always hit it over the fence.”
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t bring up Revolver’s next show on Friday, July 24th, with the former AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley, making his return. What went through your head when you saw him get announced?
“I texted Sami immediately, and I said, ‘Hey Loser, I pray to God you’re trying to get all The Switchblades together, because if you’re going to get not only Jon Moxley, but you’re going to get Joe Gacy, so you’re going to get all three switchblades, there’s three Algorithm. Do the math.’ So, let’s just put a little warning out there to Moxley, Sami, and Gacy, if The Switchblades ever feel like doing a little reunion, we’ll start to throw the party for you. We’re always on watch. I love Nashville this time of year. Yeehaw.”
Jon Moxley wasn’t the only name announced, as we also saw Joseph Sawyer (fka WWE’s Joe Gacy get announced as well. How hyped are you for this show?
“I’m absolutely going to make a statement. Knowing how the cards are going to fall in my favor tomorrow night, you’re going to see a new Remix Champion defending it in Nashville. Whoever wants to step up to the Gauntlet, I will happily beat their ass and make a statement. I’ll do it with a smile on my face and a cowboy hat on my head. However, I’m very much looking forward to the debut in Nashville. I really like Nashville. However, terrible drivers, by the way. Some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen in this country come right out of Nashville. You can put that in a quote. I’m looking forward to Nashville. It’s going to be a great time. I’m looking forward to partying after I beat whoever the hell wants to step up’s ass.”
Looking ahead for you, do you have any future goals you want to accomplish?
“I want to be a grand slam champion. Knock that out of the park. After I win the Remix tomorrow night, I’m going to be setting my sights on the World Championship next. I’d like to run Revolver properly. Good lord, it needs star power more than ever. Once I obtain that, I’ll become two belts, Brent. I’m already creaming thinking about that. And we’re just going to take over, man. The Algorithm is going to take over, man. We’re going to go after the tag belts. We’re going to take every title you got, man. We already have the Remix. World Championship, we’re going to go crazy. However, Grand Slam Champion sounds pretty nice for me in my future.
Honestly, you never know, man. I’m really looking forward to my future. I’m not going to divulge all my plans because last time I did, I got kicked in the dick for it. So, I’d just say stay tuned. I’m not going to give away all my secrets right now.”
Do you have anyone you’d still really like to share the ring with?
“Shit, bro, that’s anybody with a pulse. But to not give you a lame answer and give you what you’re looking for. There are a lot of dumbasses, man, who deserve to get their ass beat. There are so many people out there that I’d love to just put my ass on. If I had to give a distinct answer. The number one answer for me every time is Randy Orton. I’ll say that until I die. I would love to share the ring with Randy Orton before he goes. That would mean a lot to me, and that would be very cool.
However, on the independent scene, I have a long, it’s duct taped to my leg, that’s how long this list is. There’s a long list of them, so I’ll give you a couple of them. Juni Underwood. I’d love to beat that pretty boy’s ass. That would be pretty fun. Give me Bigg Pound. I’d love to beat his dumbass up. He walks around calling himself the Maroon Goon, the Thug; he thinks he’s so cool. I will beat the brakes off him. I’ll show him who the real thug is. There are so many of these losers I’d love to beat the shit out of. Hey, I’m going to say this, hot take, nah, you know what? I’m going to save that because I want you to wonder who I’m talking about.
But if any of these content creators want to get froggy and jump over the guardrail, I pray to God that they leave. All these content creators are going to get busted in the mouth. A lot of these guys think they can do this shit. They think they can critique what we do? They think this shit is so easy? Some people say, ‘Oh, I know it’s hard,’ but they’re the same people on stream talking shit, and saying, ‘Oh, that wasn’t that good,’ or ‘They could have done this better.’ All these content creators, man. Bunch of losers. Could never lace my boots, couldn’t even lace a part of my boots. That’s why they’re there doing what they’re doing. That’s why they’re behind the camera. Their athleticism isn’t even close to what I’m doing.
I got more athleticism in my pinky toe, in my right ball, than they do in their whole body. All those kids were the ‘Oooo pick me’ kids back in Gym in high school. They were all the ‘Ooooo, pick me’ and put me on your team. I was the guy getting picked first every single time; I was the guy they were fighting to get on their team. I didn’t give a damn if it was kickball, volleyball, dodgeball, or balls balls, I was that guy, and I forever will be that guy. Alright? I digress.”
