Exclusive: Amity LaVey Talks Wrestivus, The Awakening, TCW, Rising Stars, and more
In TurnbuckleTimes’ latest exclusive interview, Amity LaVey (@AmityLaVey666) sits down with TBT’s own Scott Mitchell (@scott44mitchell) to discuss her big Wrestivus weekend, including her match on Saturday at BST with Vita VonStarr and Sammi Chaos against Gabby Forza, Jazmyne Hao, & Lili Ruiz, and her tag match with Sammi Chaos on Sunday at WWR+ against the WWE ID Women’s Champion, Laynie Luck, & Allie Katch. She also spoke about her upcoming shows at TCW, Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling, and much more. You can watch the interview with the “Doctor’s Favorite Patient” down below in its entirety.
We’ve seen you grow, persona-wise, an absolutely great deal. You’re starting too now, it’s night and day. You recently shared a photo online of one of your earliest promo photos. How did you discover the darkness that we see now with Amity LaVey within yourself?
“Well, I saw him, I saw them. I heard him, I heard them. They just started telling me things to do, and then I started listening. Then a bunch of doctors tried to tell me to stop doing those things, and then I did what I had to do.”
Your career has been growing amazingly lately. We’ve seen you debut at new places, become a mainstay at Wrestling Open/Beyond Wrestling as of late, and reach brand new heights. Your hard work is truly paying off. What do you attribute this to the most?
“Honestly, I would say just, everyone is always like ‘right place, right time, whatever, you know people, just weasel your way in’ and stuff like that. But I feel like I’ve just been really lucky because I don’t really know where it all came from. All of a sudden, something, maybe around this time last year, clicked, and I found myself branching out from places I didn’t feel like I was going to leave at any point.”
“My home. I didn’t expect to leave. I’m not saying leave as in I went off because I got signed, and I did this, that, and the other thing. Obviously, I’m on the indies. But I feel like I’m in the right spot. I’m where I should be, at this point. I feel like I’m at a good point. I feel like there are certain things I may be a little behind on in certain aspects of the whole thing, but I think I’m where I should be, maybe.”
Your weekend kicks off on Saturday as you travel to BST to team up with the Awakening in full force, with Sammi Chaos & Vita Von Starr to face off with Gabby Forza, Jazmyne Hao, & Lili Ruiz. What is your mindset heading into this show?
Just looking at my competitors, I mean, come on… Everyone saw what Sammi and I did to Gnomie, and Gnomie’s going to be the big, strong one in the match. She’s going to come in and destroy everyone, until Sammi comes in, and then she’s done… My sisters, I’ve missed them so much. I’m not worried. The other two, I beat Jazmyne Hao by myself; I can do it with my arms tied behind my back. Lili, lil fishy, Pesce, that’s how we say it in Italian. I don’t like Pesce, I don’t eat it. I’m allergic to it. So, bye-bye. Gnomie, like I just said, we flattened her. Now we have Vita, it’s not just Sammi and I. Sammi and I took care of her. With Vita, we can take care of all three.”
The Awakening has become one of the most dominant trios on the independent scene today. What does it mean to you to work alongside Sammi and Vita and see all they accomplish?
“I love everything that they do. I love everything that Vita has done; she’s such a veteran, and I don’t feel like she gets her flowers as she deserves. So, I’m going to give them to her. She really is such a vet. She’s such a supportive, go with the flow, she’s not difficult to work with. When you’re thinking from a talent point of view, she’s so easy to work with. And she always brings someone with her, which is awesome. She brings students with her, and she trains. She has people underneath her, and she takes them under her wing. It’s nice to see. It’s a very almost mommy-like. She’s my sister, but it’s almost mommy-like. She’s a big sister. Sammi is BIG sister. Sammi squashes everyone. Seeing Sammi go to Japan and come back even meaner, hot.”
When did you realize that you had something good here with Sammi and Vita, and decide to go all in, forming “The Awakening”?
“So, Vita reached out to me. Vita and I had something in common from the moment we met. We realized that the two of us never fought, but there was no reason to ever fight. We just knew right off the bat we’d be stronger together. Sammi, I’ve worked with you so many times in the past. We kept crossing paths and kept being put in tag matches together. It’s about time it’s an established team, finally, not random. We belong together.”
While that might be the only time this weekend we see The Awakening in full force, you will also be having a tag match at WWR+ on Sunday, as you team up with Sammi Chaos to face off with Laynie Luck and Allie Katch. What is your mindset heading into this one?
“So, I’m so excited for this one. I wanted to get my hands on Allie for a while, just because I like the way she looks. We like her. I think she’d be fun; she looks like a fun toy to play with. And Laynie, Miss Champion, she’s someone that I feel I would look great pinning. It would look great for my resume, right? … The headline ‘Amity LaVey Pins WWE ID Women’s Champion, Laynie Luck’ sounds amazing to me. So, if that happens to happen, then obviously we know, it’s a tag match, so it’s nothing… Clout? You know? That’d be nice. I’m sure Sammi would appreciate it too. Maybe Sammi can pin her. Maybe Sammi can pin her, and I can sit on top of Sammi while pinning her, and we can have a nice picture moment. That’d be so cute. We should do that.”
Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up your upcoming match next weekend on May 23rd at Titans Championship Wrestling. You will be defending your Goddess Championship against Elle Valentine, Francesca Chini, & Emily Saxton. What is your mindset heading into this four-corners elimination match?
“My Goddess’ title. Not Emily Saxton, not Francesca Chini, and not Elle Valentine. Nobody even knows her. You don’t even go here… Again, not worried, because come on, come on, come on. I don’t even need The Devout. I know things are a little rocky right now between the boys. But I don’t need them. I don’t need my brothers that badly, I don’t think.”
What has it been like to just be a part of TCW so far, and work with the likes of Dr. Sleep Anthony Gangone?
“Gangone is one of my favorite people. He really is. He has been another support. He’s been so supportive, again, brother, he’s my brother. He’s someone whom I can really look up to, to know that he always has my back and that he’s always going to put me in a good position; he’s never going to do wrong by me. He and I have gotten to know each other on a definitely more personal level, and we learned that our brains are wired very similarly. That helps a lot, too. He can understand what Amity needs when nobody else takes the time to find out what Amity needs. He’s someone else who needs to get his flowers. He’s always there, and he’s always the guy that you can rely on. Just give the man his chance. Just give him an opportunity. Please. Somebody. Please. Sign him. Please.”
Titan Championship Wrestling has always been synonymous with the darkness known as Amity LaVey. What does it mean for you to rule over Titans as the Goddess Champion, and know that you are the top of the mountain there?
“They may as well carve me into the side of the mountain like Mt. Rushmore because I’m not going anywhere. That’s all I really have to say about that. I’m not going anywhere. They’re not going to take me out. They’re not going to kill me. That belt is mine. I’ll tattoo it around my waist if I have to.”
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t bring up your time in Blitzkrieg! Pro, so far. Recently, we saw you take part in a five-way all-women’s scramble match with Notorious Mimi, Mylo, Nikki Winters, and Corinne Joy. What has it been like joining Blitzkrieg and finding yet another new territory to conquer?
“So, Blitzkrieg is somewhere where I have not had the best luck. But I’ve been able to still have my dignity, and I appreciate that. Jeremy has been great. Everyone there has been amazing, and I just love Connecticut wrestling. Bottom line. It’s just good vibes. The fans love me. Buy my merch, I love you.”
It was also recently announced that you will be going one-on-one with Tiphani Grady at Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling on June 20th. What is going through your head as that one rapidly approaches?
“Am I supposed to be nervous? Why are you asking? Am I supposed to be nervous? No, right? So, eh. Finally, I’ll get a win at Rising Stars. That’s what I’m thinking. I may have something up my sleeve… We will turn it around because I’m wrestling Tiphani Grady, and who? Who is that?”
What David and Mercedes Martinez are building over at Rising Stars, what does it mean to you to be a part of that?
“Just the fact that I saw it from the start. I’ve been there from the start. I’m pretty sure I’m the only person who has been to every single show besides Abadon, I think. I have to look back at it. But I need to be respected, and I need my damn flowers. But, I love Rising Stars, thanks, Mercedes.”
You and Abadon went to war at Rising Stars. You came up just short, but you guys absolutely killed it. What was this match like for you?
“It was interesting. I don’t really have situations like that a lot. Not saying I was uneasy in any way at all, but she’s dead. I’m not dead. Obviously, I wasn’t going to win. How do you kill someone already dead? I only know how to kill people. I can’t kill someone already dead. Obviously, I was a little worried.”
Kind of going hand in hand with WWR+, Rising Stars is yet another all-women’s promotion. The importance of this cannot be understated. But, how special is it for you to continue to build up women’s wrestling as a whole?
“Definitely important. We finally have a platform, and everyone knows that it’s been ‘oh, a women’s match, bathroom break, concessions break.’ Like, no, no. Sit in your seat. Sit your ass down, pay attention, and learn something about the sport. You know what? Women’s wrestling is so much better than it used to be. It’s not WWE divas with their thongs sticking out of their pants. Yeah, sure, some girls have that look, and that’s great. But that’s not what we do anymore. That’s been something that for years, even in the WWE, for years, how long have the Horsewomen been around? All of these women who started it off, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Bayley’s doing her own thing too with Lodestone. We’re up. We’re on the rise. Pay attention to us.”
What are your hopes at Rising Stars for the future there of Amity LaVey?
“I want to win. That would be nice. Would be nice to finally be able to walk out of there feeling happy. Then somebody gets hurt when Amity’s not happy.”
Looking ahead, do you have any future goals lined up for 2026 or beyond?
“So, honestly, a big goal I have this year is that I’d love to get myself a spot, whether I do anything or not, or if I’m just there, I do want to get some extra work with a little three-letter company. I’m done with The Fed. I’d like to do the others. A nice little Ring of Honor debut or something like that would be nice. That’s kind of my goal. I know it’s a big goal. But whether it happens this year, next year, the end of this year, the beginning of next year, or even at the end of next year, I’ll be happy. Everything else, as I said before, I feel like I’m in a good spot right now. I have eyes on me the way that I need to to progress, I feel.”
Are there any names out there that you’d like to share the ring with that you may not have had the chance to yet?
“One of them was Allie (Katch). For sure. So, I’m very excited to put her in a body bag on Sunday.”
