CZW 27th Anniversary: Deej and Ricks Ultraviolent Adventure
Since its beginnings in 1999, Combat Zone Wrestling has stood out in the independent wrestling world for embracing a raw, hardcore style known as ultraviolence. After the collapse of Extreme Championship Wrestling in the early 2000s, CZW cultivated its own niche by featuring matches that regularly used weapons like ladders, barbed wire, light tubes, and panes of glass — all in pursuit of shock, spectacle, and fan excitement. While the promotion has diversified its offerings over the decades, its anniversary shows remain rooted in those intense, weapon-heavy traditions that longtime fans still love.
This year’s 27th Anniversary show — labeled the Deej and Ricks Ultraviolent Adventure — leans into CZW’s classic identity by centering its main event around an Ultraviolent Elimination Scramble Death Match for the vacant ultraviolent title. Six competitors — Lucky 13, Alex Colon, Eric Ryan, SHLAK, Jimmy Lloyd, and Hoodfoot — are scheduled to battle it out in a format where pins, chaos, and brutal weapon spots can come at any moment. Multi-man deathmatch scrambles like this are unpredictable by design, making endurance and adaptability just as important as pain tolerance.
Supporting that marquee bout are other specialty matches that capture the visceral essence of CZW. The Ladders & Lighttubes Death Match between Eric Dillinger and Jamesen Shook pairs agility with danger, as fragile fluorescent tubes shatter on impact and create an unpredictable battlefield. Similarly, the Barbed Wire Mountain Death Matchfeaturing Rickey Shane Page and Judge Joe Dred promises to use barbed wire — one of hardcore wrestling’s signature elements — as both an obstacle and a weapon, forcing both wrestlers to navigate every move carefully.
Adding even more variety is the Home Improvement Death Match, with everyday tools repurposed as weapons to ramp up the brutality between Nicco Grey and Jake Gray. These kinds of matches highlight CZW’s creativity within the ultraviolent genre — making tools and props part of the wrestling narrative rather than just background items. And in a match labeled the Ides of March Death Match, Mickie Knuckles and Angel Metro bring personal intensity and hardcore brawling to close out the card.
