In TurnbuckleTimes’ latest exclusive interview, Ruthie Jay (@SUPERIORQWEEN) sits down with Scott Mitchell (@scott44mitchell) to discuss her upcoming match with Gabby Forza on Wrestling Open, her recent match with Liviyah, making her debut on Wrestling Open, joining the Beyond Wrestling family, the Wrestling Open Women’s Championship, Kylie Alexa, her debut with NYWC against Kalypto, her upcoming debut with Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling against the NWA’s Sirena Veil, her time in NWA, and so much more. Watch it in its entirety down below.

Let’s jump right into it. On Thursday, you’ll be returning to Wrestling Open to take on Gabby Forza. What’s your mindset heading into that one?

“Well, one, it should be a really fun match. I’ve seen some of her stuff online, on social media, so she seems like a fun person to wrestle. So, I was like, okay, okay. I never wrestled her before, so that will be a cool experience, and I was like, hey, they brought me back. So, I’m like, okay, I did a good job the first time. So, that’s a good sign. I always like to be brought back. It always lets me know that I did a good job the first time.”

Seeing everything that Gabby Forza has accomplished, does this add any flair to the match for you heading into this one?

“For sure, it’s a little bit of pressure. But you know, I know what I can do in the ring too.”

The last time we saw you on Wrestling Open was against Liviyah, a mere couple of weeks back at Star Spangled Spectacular. What was it like to work with Liviyah?

“Did you watch that match? Well, it was cool. I never met her before. But, I know now she’s also with the NWA, that’s pretty cool to see somebody with the company I used to deal with. Wrestling her and seeing what the women are like now in the NWA, I was like, okay. The division is in good hands. She’s pretty good.”

What did it mean to you to make your debut at Wrestling Open and join the Beyond Wrestling family up here in the northeast?

“Really cool. Everybody there has treated me really nicely and is very friendly. Everyone there is professional. Everyone knows their part and knows what to do. When I came the first time, I didn’t feel unwelcome or anything. It was a really cool experience, and then, to wrestle there in front of the crowd, they were really into the match. They weren’t silent; they told you how they felt. They booed you, told you “you suck,” so I liked the whole experience overall.”

We’re seeing Beyond Wrestling make a Wrestling Open Women’s Championship. Is this a goal of yours at Open?

“Yes. I’d love to be the women’s champion for Beyond. They have so much good talent there, in and out coming. So, to defend that title against all of them, or to even wrestle against all of them, would be a cool experience. So, I’d definitely want to challenge for the title and possibly win.”

Are there any names at Beyond Wrestling you haven’t gotten to work with yet, but would like to have a match with?

“Maybe Laynie Luck, because I’ve seen her at Beyond a few times. I’ve met her once or twice before; she seems cool. And we follow each other on socials, and I’ve seen her moveset, so I think we could put on a really good match together.”

What has it been like for you to see Kylie Alexa’s growth and establish herself as her own individual and not only Kenzie’s sister, as we saw in NWA?

“I think it’s really good for her. I met her years ago when she was a teenager. Now she’s doing her own thing and I’ve been seeing her wrestle there every week or on NWA doing her own thing. I was like, wow, she’s gotten so good. The progression, it happened so fast, I closed my eyes and opened them, and I was like, “Damn. You’re doing it, girl.” She got very good very quickly. That’s why reps are important too, because I see all the matches she’s having, and every match I see of hers, she just keeps getting better, so I’m just like, yeah, that’s good. That’s how it should be.”

You also made another debut in my neck of the woods at NYWC at Masters of the Mat as you battled Kalypto. What was this match like for you?

“It was pretty cool. Kalypto has a different style and a different look than all the other girls, so when I wrestled her, I thought to myself, okay, we’re going to do something a little different. The match went on really well. I enjoyed working with her… It was pretty good. I was like, okay, good attitude, good moves, didn’t want to put a million moves in a few minutes, so it was easy. I was like, okay, I love it when people are not too into the moves. She has a good character, so she incorporates that into her wrestling. I enjoy working with people like that, so it’s not just about the moves.”

You will be returning to New York on June 20th at Rising Stars of Women’s Wrestling as you face off with Sirena Veil. What is your mindset heading into this one?

“See, I was just like, what are the odds that I’m wrestling somebody from the NWA again. I was like what the hell? Honestly, I was thinking this too myself, because earlier this year, I was wrestling people only from TNA. Now, I’m wrestling people only from the NWA. Like, what? Why do they keep putting me against people who are signed? That’s just weird to me. Like, I never had that happen back-to-back-to-back like that. In my head, I was like, I don’t mind it, but it was just weird to me. I was scratching my head because I just wrestled someone from the NWA, now I’m wrestling somebody from the NWA again.

Earlier this year, it was the TNA thing. So, I’m just like, that’s strange, maybe just like a weird coincidence… I’ve never seen her wrestle before. I’ve seen her in person, but I don’t think I’ve seen her wrestle before. I haven’t been on social media as much as I used to be. We just started following each other, so I haven’t seen much of her. I know before the match, I usually try to watch a little bit of my opponents. So, I’m going to try to see what she could do. But I like her look. She has a really cool vampire look to her. So, that’s pretty cool.”

This match also marks your debut with the promotion. What’s your mindset heading into that? What does it mean to you to make your debut here?

“Honestly, it would be really amazing to know I’m wrestling for Mercedes Martinez. It’s her company. She’s a really big deal and an icon for women’s wrestling; she’s seen it all. She’s been through it all for women’s wrestling on the indies, and she’s been everywhere, too. So, it’ll be really amazing to know that I worked for somebody who has so much experience in this business.”

Recently, you also got to team up with Rachel Ley on AEW to challenge Megan Bayne & Lena Kross. What was this whole experience like for you?

“It was really fun. They are tall. I was like, oh my gosh, I looked across and saw their chests, I had to look up. They’re so tall. But it was cool. I never wrestled Rachel or teamed up with her before. That was a first-time experience. Then, when we had the match, it was cool and easy: get in, do our thing, get out. It was fun to watch back. I was just like, oh my gosh, I got so much height. It didn’t feel that high when I took the chokeslam, but I watched it, and I was like, oh my gosh.”

You were the first Haitian-born female wrestler to sign with the NWA. How important was that for you?

“It was really important to me because I just think people realize, there are different black people guys. We’re not all African-American, you know. We’re from different places. So, when I tell people that, it makes people want to know where Haiti is, what a Haitian is, and they just want to learn more about my culture and try to understand what makes me different from another black person. It’s the way it is, you know, I don’t make the rules, but it makes me appreciate that I am black, but you can also know what black person that I am.”

What was it like to form the Caribbean Connection with La Rosa Negra in the NWA?

“That was a fun time, working with her. Especially since before, she wasn’t around. She had a car accident and everything. When she came back to come and team with me, it was a really fun time… It was a party. That girl is always fun, always smiling, and it was always a good time with her. Any time I was feeling down or anything, she used to be there for me. Any time she was upset or anything, I was there for her. We were actually friends, not just a team. So, it was a good time.”

Looking ahead, do you have any goals that you’d like to accomplish?

“Well, for one, I’d like to buy a house. That’s one of my goals. I don’t know if it’ll be in South Florida, though. An arm and a leg for a house here is crazy. But that’s one of my goals. I want to buy a house. I still want to secure a really good contract for myself, for wrestling. That way, I feel like I actually made it, like, I did it for myself. I did it for everyone who was my supporter. This is why we’ve been doing it for. A really good contract and everything. This way, I can actually see that I’m appreciated by a company. They want me here. And they have something for me. That’s what everything has always been about., and that’s what everyone is working for; that’s the goal. That’s my professional goal, and the house is my personal goal.”

Is there anybody you’d like to share the ring with?

“I want to run it back with Jada Stone on TNA. That match we had at Ladies Night Out, I need to run that back. I don’t take L’s. I need to run that back. Plus, I enjoyed that match a lot. It was a really good match… Willow Nightingale. That would be a cool match to have. She’s really good. She’s really strong, too. Or Mercedes Mone, if that ever could actually happen. She does work indies sometimes, so never say never.”
