On Saturday, May 30th, WWE and AAA presented their first night of “Noche de Los Grandes.” The show was headlined by a big mask vs. mask match between El Grande Americano and Original El Grande Americano. This is a rivalry that has been brewing for quite some time, since the original El Grande Americano made his return at this year’s Royal Rumble. Following this match, there would only be one El Grande Americano left in the WWE, with the loser needing to unmask. However, this match was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to the action we saw.

We also saw Laredo Kid put his AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Rey Fenix. However, the championship action didn’t stop there. We also saw Psycho Clown & Pagano put their AAA Tag Team Championships on the line against the War Raiders. The final of three championship matches on the night saw El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr put his AAA Latin American Championship on the line against El Hijo del Vikingo. So, what were the top three moments of the night?

3. War Raiders Capture AAA Tag Team Championships, Chaos Ensues

In the final match of the night before the main event, the War Raiders looked to get some hands on tag team gold as they faced off with the AAA Tag Team Champions, Pagano & Psycho Clown. Psycho Clown & Pagano are one of the all-time best tag teams to come out of Mexico. With that said, they have not been on the same page as of late. Even though they were the champions, they were the underdogs as they went up against a very dominant team, Erik & Ivar. Despite not doing a ton on the main roster in WWE, don’t let that fool you; the War Raiders are dominant.

Pagano & Psycho Clown won the titles 287 days ago, when they knocked off Los Garza. Over the course of the next nearly 300 days, Pagano and Psycho Clown have retained their titles against a who’s who of tag teams. Names like the Aztec Warriors (Laredo Kid & Octagon Jr.), Grayson Waller & Kofi Kingston, El Ojo (El Mesias & Mecha Wolf), Nueva Generacion Dinamita (Forastero & Sanson), American Made (Brutus & Julius Creed) have all stepped up and fallen. However, the War Raiders wouldn’t be like the rest. Unfortunately, miscommunication once again messed up the champions, leading to the War Raiders hitting their finishing move on Psycho Clown and pinning him to win the titles.

After the match, the War Raiders attacked Psycho Clown yet again after a staredown with his former partner, Pagano. Pagano turned his back on Psycho Clown and walked up the ramp, leaving him to the wolves of the War Raiders. Not only did the War Raiders win the title, but they sent a message, decimating the prestigious luchador known as Psycho Clown. This was a cool win for the War Raiders, and one that was very well-deserved. It’s going to be a blast seeing Psycho Clown and Pagano go at it one-on-one. That match may be one of the best matches of the year for AAA when it happens.

2. Rey Fenix Captures AAA Cruiserweight Championship

In the opening match of the night, we saw Laredo Kid put his AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Rey Fenix. This was an absolutely fantastic match to kick things off. It really set the tone of the entire night and did the Lucha Libre prestige and legacy very proud. Fenix is one of the most underrated luchadores around today, and this was a very well-deserved moment for him. He is not only one of the best high-flyers, but he also represents everything it means to be a luchador very well. He had a tall task in front of him in this one, as Laredo Kid is no slouch.

Laredo Kid has held the title for the past 539 days. He captured the title from Matt Riddle in December of 2024 to kick off his second reign. He knocked off a who’s who of cruiserweights through his 500+ day reign. Names of the likes of Mustafa Ali, Epydemius Jr., Abismo Negro Jr., El Fiscal, Mecha Wolf, Aero Star, Jack Cartwheel, Lince Dorado, Je’Von Evans, Mini Vikingo, Octagon Jr., TJ Perkins, and Dragon Lee stepped up, but fell right back down. Most recently, he knocked off his challenger here tonight, Fenix, in a match for the title a mere week ago. But tonight, Fenix was ready for him.

Despite a low blow from the champion, it wasn’t enough to keep Fenix down. Fenix woke himself back up and hit a Mexican Muscle Buster on Laredo Kid and pinned him to win the match. Marking his first singles titles under the WWE banner. This win marks the beginning of Fenix’s second reign with the title. His first came all the way back in 2022. If history is any indication, Fenix could be in for a nice, lengthy reign with the title. His first reign came in at just under 400 days, so could we see him reach that 400-day mark this time around? It’s certainly possible.

1. El Grande Americano Keeps His Masks, Chad Gable Unmasks

The main event of the show was one of the most talked-about matches in recent memory. El Grande Americano has endeared himself to the fans following the injury sustained by Original El Grande Americano. On paper, it was a gimmick that simply should not have worked. However, Ludwig Kaiser took it over, made it his own. He quickly became one of the very best versions of El Grande Americano that we have ever seen. Original El Grande Americano made his return in January at the Royal Rumble. We knew when we saw his return that this was a match that had to happen, and it happened here tonight.

It’s a bummer to even think about one of these men losing their masks. It has done wonders for both of their careers. Whether it’s Chad Gable or Ludwig Kaiser, both have played this role damn near perfectly. However, El Grande Americano won the hearts and the adoration of the fans in Mexico and all over the world. The ovation he got walking out to the ring ahead of this one was so special. The fans embraced him as one of their own, and that’s truly a sight to see. The look on his face truly shows how much it means to him. It’s awesome to see happening for Kaiser.

The Original El Grande Americano hit El Grande Americano with a guitar before the opening bell, and things started quickly. The Original El Grande Americano had an excellent showing in this match. He looked like a million bucks, and did everything fantastically, playing the heel role damn-near perfect. In the end, a bloody El Grande Americano hit a running headbutt on Original El Grande Americano and pinned him to win the match and keep his mask. Original El Grande Americano was unmasked to be Chad Gable. Gable told the crowd he’ll be back at AAA soon. A beautiful moment to end an amazing story told by the WWE and AAA collectively.
