On Saturday, June 7th, history was made at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA, as WWE and AAA partnered for their first major event in history, “Worlds Collide.” This event was announced following WWE’s acquisition of AAA at the WrestleMania 41 event. This was the fourth “Worlds Collide” show, but was the first one to feature AAA in any capacity. It was also the first WWE event in history to feature any AAA wrestlers since 1997. The show kicked off the “Money In The Bank” weekend. It was headlined by El Hijo Del Vikingo putting his AAA Mega Championship on the line against WWE’s Chad Gable.

We also saw Stephanie Vaquer team up with Lola Vice to face off with Chik Tormenta and Dalys, as well as Ethan Page putting his NXT North American Championship on the line in a four-way match against Je’Von Evans, Laredo Kid, and Rey Fenix. We also saw two trios matches, paying homage to the trios matches of old Lucha Libre style. On such a historic show, what were the top three moments of the event?

3. Dominik Mysterio vs. Octagon Jr. Made Official For Money In The Bank/Dr. Iguana Has A Star Making Performance

In the opening match of “Worlds Collide,” we saw Octagon Jr. team up with Dr. Iguana and Aerostar to take on Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, and Lince Dorado. This was an outstanding opening match that left many fans in awe of what they just witnessed. This was a star-making performance from Dr. Iguana. Ultimately, Octagon Jr. hits a moonsault fallaway slam onto Dorado to pin him and earn the win for his trio. Dr. Iguana looked fantastic in his WWE debut. Many fans were in awe of his character and skill when it came to his high-flying wrestling ability.

Dr. Iguana quickly became one of my favorites in this match. His ability to crawl around the ring and look like an Iguana was a lot of fun. His stuffed Iguana was just a plus, as his character left many new fans very intrigued with who he was. However, the bigger story came after the match when Octagon Jr. confronted Dominik Mysterio. Mysterio, accompanied by Liv Morgan, was sitting front row for this match. Following the match’s conclusion, Mysterio cut a promo on his “deadbeat dad.” This led Octagon Jr. to stick up for Rey Mysterio and get in the face of his son.

The two men start brawling and hit the ring as fists continue to fly. When they were separated, Dominik said to Octagon Jr., he’ll see him at “Money In The Bank.” Mysterio also announced he will put his Intercontinental Championship on the line. This will mark Octagon Jr.’s first time on WWE programming. Before this announcement, “Money In The Bank” only had four matches announced. Now, it appears we have a fifth, and ultimately the final match announcement for the upcoming annual show, “Money In The Bank.”

2. Stephanie Vaquer & Lola Vice Defeat Chik Tormenta & Dalys

In one of “Worlds Collide” marquee match-ups, we saw RAW’s Stephanie Vaquer team up with NXT’s Lola Vice to face Chik Tormenta and Dalys. At NXT Battleground in May, Dalys and Tormenta were seen backstage talking to NXT’s general manager, Ava. This led to both Dalys and Tormenta being ringside to watch Vaquer’s successful NXT Women’s Championship defense over Jordynne Grace. Following the match in a backstage segment, Vaquer was seen in an altercation with Tormenta and Dalys. On the following episode of NXT, a tag team match was made official, with Vice agreeing to be Vaquer’s partner.

The tag team match lived up to the hype and then some. One of the big moments saw Vaquer hit her infamous Devil’s Kiss move on Dalys. This led to Vice joining in the fun and hitting her version of the Devil’s Kiss on Chik Tormenta. Ultimately, Vaquer and Vice were victorious when Vaquer hit her finishing move, the SVB, on Dalys to win the match. Now, Vaquer is off to the Money In The Bank match, whereas Vice is back off to NXT, where she hopes to get herself back in the NXT Women’s Championship picture.

The victory Vaquer picked up over Dalys was a prime example of a student beating the teacher. Vaquer is continuing to make a name for herself inside the WWE and is continuing to show why she very well could be running the RAW women’s division this time next year. For Vice, she could certainly get a look to be the woman in NXT to dethrone Jacy Jayne to win the NXT Women’s Championship. It remains to be seen where both of these women go from here, but one thing we know for sure is that we hope to see them back in the ring together soon.

1. El Hijo Del Vikingo Defeats Chad Gable To Retain the AAA Mega Championship

The main event of “Worlds Collide” saw El Hijo Del Vikingo put the AAA Mega Championship on the line against WWE’s Chad Gable. Gable is someone who has waged war on the luchadores of Lucha Libre, including the likes of Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio, Penta, and, of course, Rey Fenix. Gable’s alter-ego, El Grande Americano, is someone whom he created to thwart off the luchadores coming to the WWE. The leader of American Made now sets his sights on the newly crowned AAA Mega Champion, Vikingo. Vikingo won the title from Alberto El Patron (fka WWE’s Alberto Del Rio) for the title last week at AAA Alianzas.

Was Gable able to prove his success as a luchador by capturing gold before his alias, El Grande Americano, could? Americano gets to have that same opportunity later in the evening to win the Money In The Bank match following his upset win over both AJ Styles and CM Punk this past Monday night on RAW. Or was Vikingo able to retain his gold in what could have been one of the best matches of the entire weekend?

The match itself lived up to the hype and then some. Both men left it all out in the ring to call themselves the top dog of AAA. In one of the match’s big moments, Vikingo hit a Mexican Destroyer on Gable on the apron. Gable also showed out, as he hit a moonsault on Vikingo through a table. Ultimately, Vikingo hits a 630 on Gable to retain his AAA Mega Championship. This was an excellent match and an excellent way to close the show.
