On Sunday, May 25th, AEW returned to the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, AZ, for its annual show, “Double Or Nothing.” The event saw nine matches on the main card and was headlined by a dream match, which saw “Hangman” Adam Page go one-on-one with Will Ospreay in the show’s main event. This match also marked the conclusion of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament. The winner punches their ticket to go to All In to face Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship.

We also saw Anarchy In The Arena make its return as the Death Riders teamed up with the Young Bucks to face off with Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Willow Nightingale, and The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, & Katsuyori Shibata). Also, Mercedes Mone met Jamie Hayter in the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament to earn the right to go to All In to face Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship, The Hurt Syndicate defend the AEW Tag Team Championships against the Sons of Texas, Kazuchika Okada put the Continental Championship on the line against “Speedball” Mike Bailey, and so much more. So, what were the top three moments of the show?

3. Ricochet and Mark Briscoe Go To War In A Stretcher Match

In one of the most brutal matches of the night, Ricochet met Mark Briscoe in AEW’s first-ever stretcher match. This was a rivalry that started about a month ago when Ricochet lost to Briscoe on Dynamite. For the next two Dynamite episodes, Ricochet and Briscoe would meet in multi-man matches, both of which Ricochet won. About a week ago, Tony Khan announced these two would meet in a stretcher match at Double Or Nothing. The match more than lived up to the hype.

The match between Ricochet and Briscoe was as bloody and brutal as you would hope a stretcher match would be. Eventually, it took a second pair of scissors for Ricochet to cut down Briscoe’s toughness and win the stretcher match. He overcame the creativity of Briscoe’s brutal attack to bust him wide open and put him on the defensive. Overall, this was a great and physical match that more than kept the crowd alive behind the babyface Briscoe. It also had a great finish that played into Ricochet’s new heel role.

Ricochet went for the shooting star press on Briscoe, but crashed and burned, hitting the gurney. This was a thing of beauty. Since he joined AEW, Ricochet has arguably been on the greatest run of his entire career. His heel run has been fantastic. He’s showing he can be a top guy in any promotion in the world. He’s capitalizing on what he wasn’t able to do in the WWE and is showing the world why he can be a top guy, and that’s very commendable. Likewise for Briscoe, he remains one of AEW’s biggest baby faces even in defeat. This was a fantastic match that deserves watching back by any wrestling fan.

2) Anarchy In The Arena Returns

In one of the night’s biggest matches, we saw the return of the big “Anarchy In The Arena” match. This match has become a staple at Double Or Nothing. This year, we saw the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, and Marina Shafir) team up with the Young Bucks to face off with Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Willow Nightingale, and The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, & Katsuyori Shibata). However, this match was as fun as you would imagine it would be, like every other “Anarchy In The Arena” match.

The match was chaos in the best way possible. Kenny Omega did a flip from somewhere up high in the arena in the crowd, Willow Nightingale was cuffed to the ring post by her ear, Nicholas Jackson hit a Swanton Bomb from the top of the entranceway on to Hobbs through a table, and Swerve who disappeared for a few returned on a forklift, taking out both the Young Bucks with a stomp. Chaotic to say the least, especially with Hook, Gabe Kidd, and even Mark Briscoe appearing.

Eventually, Swerve Strickland pinned Nicholas Jackson to win the match for his team after a stomp from the top rope with modified shoes with tacks on the bottom. This was one of the best Anarchy In The Arena matches since its inception. This match has become a yearly staple at Double Or Nothing, and this year was no different. Each time we see Anarchy In The Arena come back, we know we are in for a treat. This year was no different. As chaotic as the match was, this remained one of the best matches on the show.

1) Owen Hart Foundation Cup Winners Are Revealed

Kicking off the night, we saw Mercedes Mone meet Jamie Hayter in the Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament Finals. The winner is to go on to All In on July 12th to meet Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship. Mone defeated Julia Hart and the Ring of Honor Women’s Champion, Athena, to get to the finals. As for Hayter, her avenue saw her defeat Billie Starkz and Kris Statlander to make it to Double or Nothing. However, only one woman would earn the right to challenge for the Women’s Championship. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t going to come easily.

Hayter and Mone threw everything they had at each other in their war to kick off Double Or Nothing. Eventually, after a terrific match, Mone spiked Hayter on her head with a DDT to pin her and win the match. Mone punched her ticket to All In, where she will do battle with Storm in what is sure to be a great match. With the first Owen Hart Foundation Cup bracket set on the women’s side, all that was left to find out was who would win the men’s side.

In the main event of this year’s Double Or Nothing, “Hangman” Adam Page went to war with Will Ospreay. This match was truly as good as you would imagine. Page defeated AEW’s newest signee, Josh Alexander, and Kyle Fletcher to make the finals. As for Ospreay, he knocked off Kevin Knight and Konosuke Takeshita to earn his spot. The winner of this match, similar to the women’s, will battle Jon Moxley at All In for the top prize in AEW, the AEW World Championship.

The match between Ospreay and Hangman picked up as it went on. Neither man gave an inch in this match. One of the big spots saw Ospreay powerbomb Hangman on the apron. He followed that up with a Styles Clash off the apron to the floor. Ultimately, Page finally put Ospreay away with a buckshot lariat. Page will look to defeat Moxley for the third time in his career, but this may arguably be his toughest challenge. The main event of All In is set: Jon Moxley vs. Adam Page for the AEW World Championship.
